| Maintaining and promoting civil education and culture in remote border areas is an important factor to enhance quality of life in villages and thus reduce incentives for outward migration. Cooperation across the border helps ameliorate the problem of marginalized border villages’ considerable distance from larger social and cultural centres. In close cooperation, Serbian and Bulgarian municipalities designed and implemented a programme of educational and cultural events, as well as debates on joint problems such as demographic development, thereby making life in the villages more interesting. | | |
| The project implemented of series of activities crossborder cultural, educational and social cooperation and exchange. These activities have brought two municipalities closer together.
Activities mentioned above have brought to following results:
- Cultural events: “Crnorecje in song and dance”, “Rtanjs poetic evenings”, “Mural exhibition”;
- Seminar about European integration and seminar on European funding opportunities, with over 250 participants;
- Established clubs (photo & cinema club, internet club, history club, club of songs and dances in the border region) with many high-school children as club members;
- Round table discussion „Demographic problems in the border region“ with 22 participants,
- Students’ parliament – Boljevac and Kula with 50 participants.
- “Gypsy’s Ball” - Ode to Life with more than 250 participants.
| The objective of the project was achieved by establishing cross-border partnerships and strengthening the cross-border contacts on the operational level between the public administrations of both municipalities as well as between activists in the field of culture, education and social matters.
By conducting the seminars “Euro-integrations- basic ideas and principles” and “European funds - importance and possible ways of use” the project contributed largely to raising public awareness about EU topics.
The project has contributed in creation of various opportunities for the citizens and institutions in the Boljevac municipality to actively participate in the process of cross-border cooperation with those of the Kula municipality. Based on this, communication and information exchange in the border region was improved.
The target group was widely defined – citizens of both towns - but the project succeeded in mobilizing different social groups of municipal residents.
By organizing round table discussions, the project connected citizens with employees of municipal social security institutions, schools, national employment service and other civil services, offering them a chance to exchange experience and network.
