In areas of high unemployment, such as the Serbian – Hungarian border region, people with disabilities tend to be particularly disadvantaged on the labour market. To improve their chances of finding a job, they need education, good information about opportunities, and links to potential employers. On the other hand, potential employers need information in order to reduce any misconceptions they might have against employees with disabilities. The project addressed all of these issues in a systematic way and created a cross-border information and service platform.
This project has addressed the position of persons with disabilities, within the labour market, and provided support and assistance both to this target group but also to trainers and lecturers in supporting people with disabilities. The project achieved the following results: - Education and rehabilitation of the disabled (15 beneficiaries successfully completed the training for the jobs of packaging, 15 beneficiaries successfully completed the training for the jobs of recycling - all of them employed, 15 beneficiaries from Sombor successfully completed the training for the jobs of making paper and cardboard goods - 2 of them employed); - Establishment of inter-regional Referential Centre (5 persons trained for work on the data base); - Creation and development of cross-border material for rehabilitation and education (“Employment Guidebook” - 200 copies); - Strengthened co-operation among Institutions in the regions;
The objective of the project was achieved through the project’s results, meaning that development of information material and a system for professional rehabilitation and data base facilitated setting up a cross-border service system for the labour market. Project had good ownership and institutional commitment which was evidenced by both project partners performing research and analysis in their regions regarding the current situation of people with disabilities in the labour market, in preparation of this project. The project is a good example of genuine cooperation. All main activities took part on the both sides of the border. The establishment of an inter-regional service centre on both sides was a significant achievement. Joint support to the development of human resources for people with special needs was achieved through international co-operation in the border area. By achieving its specific objective, project has contributed to improving the chances for employment of the persons with disabilities. Since the project proponent is a regional state institution, this project served as a model of good practice securing both financial and institutional sustainability for the future.
