| The project addressed the problem that local companies tend to struggle in accessing markets in the border area, especially after Romania’s EU accession. They tend to lack knowledge about EU procurement procedures, which is a basis for them to participate in an increasing number of EU tenders. They often lack of initiative to present their products and services abroad. Few Serbian SMEs are present on the Romanian market. Serbian and Romanian local chambers worked together to build SMEs capacities and motivation to access new markets and facilitated crossborder business networking. | | |
| The project assisted SMEs from the region to prepare tender dossiers according to EU regulations and to promote and encourage business connections between Serbian and Romanian companies.
With activities implemented the following results were achieved:
-Realization of the workshops on EU procurement for services, works and supplies with 20 groups of enterprises with a total of 235 training participants;
- Training for EU grant project preparation with 18 participants;
-Presentation of projects and project results in Regional Chamber of Commerce of Pančevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Timisoara, Resita;
-Bilateral meetings between Serbian and Romanian entrepreneurs;
-Participated in 4th Entrepreneurship Fair in Požarevac with 120 participants and meetings between 47 companies
-A workshop for the representatives of local governments explaining the project’s purpose, with 16 participants; | | |
| The objective of the project, to enable SMEs in the border region to adopt EU procedures and tools relevant to business development, was achieved.
Transfer of knowhow and experience from the Caras Severin chamber related to the European integration process was used for defining training programmes and conducting of workshops.
There is long lasting and sustainable cooperation between Serbian and Romanian local chambers: A cooperation agreement between the chamber for trade, industry and agriculture, Caras-Severin and the regional chamber of commerce of Požarevac was signed as early as 2005. Since then the two chambers have frequently prepared and implemented joint projects. This has contributed to promotion of small business in accordance with European Union rules in order to achieve sustainable development of the economy in Braničevo area.
During the promotion of project results in chambers of commerce in Serbia and Romania, strong interest for the similar activities in the future was shown. There is strong demand from Serbian local business to learn more about EU standards from the EU partner Romania in order to maintain or
improve future competitiveness. | | |
